André L. F. de Almeida is a Full Professor in the Department of Teleinformatics Engineering at the Federal University of Ceará, Brazil. In 2007, he earned dual PhDs: one from the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis in France and the other from the Federal University of Ceará. He served as Visiting Professor at the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis during 2012–2013, 2018–2019, and 2022–2024. His research covers signal processing for communications, sensor arrays, multichannel processing, multilinear algebra, and wireless communication networks, with a focus on tensor decompositions for wireless communications. He has published over 300 journal and conference papers, contributed six book chapters, and co-invented seven international patents.
Prof. Almeida is currently a Senior Area Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing. He also serves in the same capacity for IEEE Signal Processing Letters. He is an elected member of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) Signal Processing Theory and Methods (SPTM) Technical Committee for 2022–2024 and 2025–2027. He also served as an elected member of the EURASIP Signal Processing for Multi-Sensor Systems Technical Area Committee (SPMuS TAC) for 2016–2018 and 2019–2022. He was the Vice-Chair of SPMuS TAC for 2023–2024. He is now the SPMuS TAC Chair for 2025–2027. In addition to these roles, Prof. Almeida has served as an associate editor for several journals. These include the IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing (2012–2016), IEEE Signal Processing Letters (2016–2020), and IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology (2020–2022). He served on the IEEE SPS Sensor Array and Multichannel (SAM) Technical Committee for two terms (2015–2018 and 2018–2021). From 2022 to 2023, he was the IEEE SPS Director-at-Large for Regions 7 and 9. In January 2025, he was appointed Chief Editor of the IEEE SPS SigPort for 2025–2027.
He has organized and chaired several IEEE SPS conferences. As general co-chair, he led CAMSAP'2017, and as technical co-chair, he oversaw GlobalSIP'2018 and GlobalSIP'2019, both of which were focused on tensor methods for signal processing and machine learning. He also served as technical co-chair for SAM'2020 and as general co-chair for CAMSAP'2023. He is a research fellow at CNPq, the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development.
Prof. Almeida co-received the 2018 IET Communications Premium Best Paper Award and the 2022 IET Signal Processing Premium Best Paper Award. He also received Best Paper Awards at the 19th IEEE International Conference on OFDM and Frequency Domain Techniques (2016), WCNPS'2022, and the 35th (2020) and 38th (2023) Brazilian Symposia on Telecommunications and Signal Processing. In 2018, he was elected to the Brazilian Academy of Sciences.
